Silence

I normally work in sculpture but during the spring of 2020, I became involved in experimenting with mark making and colour based on drawings and photographs taken on a memorable holiday the previous spring. My source of inspiration was the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland. The shattered chaotic dry-stone walls of the karst landscape and the fragmented and energetic patterns they created were imprinted in my memory. I found the character of the walls with their intricate irregularities visually very exciting.

The works are mostly created using acrylic, pastel and collage. The heads included in two of the images are photographs of my sculptures and represent the idea of contemplation and presence in the landscape.
